Simple, common sense ways families can help protect the environment
(Saint Paul, MN) With Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, the Minnesota Natural Legacy Campaign offers this simple list of 10 things everyone can do to help fight global warming and protect the environment:
-
Recycle plastic, metal, glass, and newspapers
-
Purchase green power
-
Install low-flow shower heads
-
Clean or replace air filters in your air conditioner to save energy
-
Only wash your clothes in either warm or cold water, not hot water
-
Unplug cell phone and other chargers when not in use to save electricity
-
Keep the water heater thermostat below 120 degrees
-
Wrap your water heater tank in an insulated blanket
-
Only run your dishwasher with a full load
-
Use compact fluorescent light bulbs instead of standard incandescent bulbs.
“In the face of such large problems things can seem overwhelming, but by doing these ten easy things we can all make a difference,” said Kelly Scanlan, State Coordinator. “Over the next year I hope everyone will commit to doing these 10 simple things so we can all help make progress in the fight against global warming.”
